Subject: NEAR Calibration Update #5

Date: 22-XX January 1995

Status as of 22-XX January 1995

I've gotten a slow start on this report, so bear with me. Late last week Scott placed on the APL server (retro.jhuapl.edu) the filter bandpasses and the first data from the Ge detector.

This report has XX parts:

  1. Reproduction of the information on the filters.
  2. A drawing and brief description of what I think the sample holder should look like
  3. etc.

Test and Flight Filter Bandpasses

Reproduced here are:

In the meantime, please take a look at these and let me know if you think they look okay. I'm particularly concerned about the flight filters, especially the 450, broadband 700, and 1050 nm filters. I'm concerned about the "extra" spikes seen in each of these filters. Since I'm not a spectroscopist, I don't know if this is usual. These filters seem to have a lot of ringing at their peaks (typical for interference filters, I think), but I'm not used to eitehr the number or size of these. Are they okay?

Scott and Jim: here is a sketch of what I had in mind:
