Since 1990, Malin Space Science Systems (MSSS) of San Diego, California has been designing, developing, operating, and conducting scientific research with space camera systems onboard various spacecraft. MSSS cameras include those aboard Mars Observer (MO), Mars Global Survyeor (MGS), Mars Polar Lander (MPL), Mars Climate Orbiter (MCO), Mars Odyssey (ODY), the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), Cosmos 1, the Phoenix Mars Lander (PHX), and the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). MSSS is currently completing cameras for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) rover, Curiosity (launching October/December 2011), and for the Juno mission to Jupiter (launching August 2011). In 2006, MSSS completed 10 years of operation of the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) and began operating the Mars Color Imager (MARCI) and Context Camera (CTX) aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

MSSS is looking for a scientific applications programmer. This is a full-time position, with benefits, at our facility in San Diego, CA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS/MS in a scientific or engineering field, or equivalent experience and at least five (5) years experience developing scientific applications.

MSSS is looking for an Engineer and/or Scientist to join our Mission Operations Team.
Our team is currently responsible for operating two cameras on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) mission: the Mars Color Imager (MARCI) and Context (CTX). We will furthermore be operating three cameras on the 2011 Mars Science Lander (MSL) mission: the Mars Descent Imager (MARDI), Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) and Mast Camera (MastCam).
We will train for Camera Operations duties on MRO, which will also be applied to MSL in a couple of years. Tasks will include planning, commanding, retrieving, processing, logging, and archiving of Mars images. In addition, the Operations Team is responsible for monitoring the health and safety of the flight instruments.

Qualifications: B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Planetary Science/Physics/Geology/Astronomy, Computer Science, and/or Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering.
The successful candidate will be a quick study, have high attention to detail, possess the ability to multi-task, as well as to stay focused for long periods of time, and document their work carefully. Good communication and organizational skills are essential. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking initiative and working independently, as well as being an integral part of the team.
UNIX experience is required; Data analysis, shell script writing, programming, systems administration experience, and/or technical writing skills are a plus.
