Pre- and Post-Eruption Digital Topography of Mount St. Helens

Pre- and post-eruption digital elevation maps (DEMs) of the Mount St. Helens (MSH) area were acquired from the National Cartographhic Information Center (NCIC), U. S. Geological Survey. The DEMs cover 7.5 X 7.5 minute quadrangles and have a spatial resolution of 30 m/pixel and are reproduced here at 11 m/gray level (DN). There is about a 1-2 DN uncertainty in the values presented here for the post-eruption map. The data sets were mosaiced and slightly low-pass filtered (smoothed) in 16-bit, but are reproduced here in 8-bits.

A word of caution: these images were put onto this server quickly in order to address a specific request. There may be round-off or other quantitative error in them at the 1-2 DN level; if quantitative measurements are to be performed, the origial data sets should be obtained either from the authors, or from the NCIC.
